There is a widely believed notion that earthquake is not far from us. People could hear enormous news about it, and it can cause huge damage to human beings physically and mentally. Under this circumstance, how to self protect during the earthquake is really crucial for children. The earlier they learn the better they will react when it happens.
"EARTHQUICK" is the proposed interactive mobile application designed by Tuo Zhang from Limvi Studio to teach children how to prepare for an earthquake. The goal of this application is to use interactive games to educate children on how to protect themselves during an earthquake, enhancing their awareness of self-protection. The design is colorful and interactive, making it suitable for young users.
The "EARTHQUICK" app stands out from others in its category due to its unique approach to teaching children about earthquake safety. By utilizing gamified visual interactions and a vibrant color scheme, the app easily captures children's attention and keeps them engaged. Through playing small games, watching short animations, and listening to music, children can learn important skills and knowledge to protect themselves during emergencies.
The design process involved extensive research to ensure the app's effectiveness and appeal to the target audience. Tools such as Adobe XD, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Sketch were used to create the layout and designs. The team also conducted in-depth data analytics and market research to tailor the design to the specific needs of children.
The "EARTHQUICK" app is designed for iPad and utilizes the iOS system. It took approximately 8 months to complete the project, which was carried out in San Francisco, California. The primary challenge faced during the design process was keeping the app engaging and fun for children while also providing educational content.
This innovative design has received recognition in the form of the Iron A' Design Award in the Education, Teaching Aid, and Training Content Design category in 2019. The award acknowledges the app's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, meeting professional and industrial requirements. It is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
